Who we are

Welcome to LionsDen

Communication is a superpower. It elevates you above the ordinary, makes you stand out from the crowd. If you get it right, it achieves three crucial objectives – informs, engages and inspires.

In the healthcare world, it’s a must-have for explaining complex topics, including drug development, regulatory pathways and innovative approaches to disease.

Whether you’re a C-suite executive, responsible for millions of dollars of investment, an external expert with complicated trial data to explain, or an MSL facing challenging HCP meetings, LionsDen can prepare you, so you’re 100% ready.

With more than 30 years’ experience in the pharma, healthcare and biotech sectors, we can help you tell your story and handle questions from key audiences, from professors to patient groups.

We call it Communicating in 3D – Develop, Deliver, Defend.

Storytelling: The heart of the matter
Storytelling: The heart of the matter
What's Covered

Storytelling organises facts and data and gives them relevance and meaning. If you learn how to tell a story it gives you all kinds of powers you didn’t realise you had.

Facts and stats are dry. If you just give people information they won’t remember it. You need to engage and inspire them by telling a story. If you do that, they’ll remember the facts in the story.

A story is like a Trojan horse, smuggling facts into people’s minds.

At LionsDen all our people are expert storytellers and storybuilders. It underpins everything we do, whether you’re a C-suite executive, an MSL, in the market access team or anywhere else in the healthcare world.

We will introduce you to the secrets of storybuilding, then help you apply them to your own company, products or innovations.

The MSL Academy: For Medical Affairs
The MSL Academy: For Medical Affairs
What's Covered

In the pharmaceutical world MSLs are a key asset.

They’re the bridge between your trial data and clinical practice. They offer non-promotional advice on benefit/risk, explain ever more complex treatments and bring back valuable insights from practising clinicians.

They walk a tightrope between being over-scientific and over-simplistic, over-commercial and underwhelming. They need to engage in a peer-to-peer scientific dialogue. They are experts in your treatment; the clinician is the expert in her patients and how your drug performs in practice.

Clear verbal communication is at the heart of their role.

The MSL/HCP interchange is no place for data-dumping and hiding behind an iPad.  They need to explain, contextualise and respond to searching questions with confidence and verbal fluency.

They need to do that without overstepping the compliance and regulatory issues.

At LionsDen we’ve worked with MSLs and medical affairs departments all over the world. Get in touch to discuss how we can help your team.

Building a Scientific Narrative: For R&D teams
Building a Scientific Narrative: For R&D teams
What's Covered

The journey from molecule to medicine is long and complex. Much of it is done in labs, behind closed doors, of interest to only a few experts. But there comes a time when you need to explain it to other interested parties.

You may be the lead author of a poster at a congress or revealing Phase 2b data at a symposium. You may be presenting groundbreaking Phase 3 results to a packed auditorium with simultaneous publication in a prestigious journal, followed by a press conference.

You’ll have to deal with questions on the path to marketing authorisation, pricing and access.

Dumping data and reading slides won’t cut it. You need a scientific narrative. You need to explain what the data means, why it matters and how it compares with existing treatments.

At LionsDen we have years of experience across many therapy areas. We can help you create your scientific narrative. Then we’ll put it to the test in realistic simulations. So you’e 100% ready to engage and inspire as well as inform.

Telling your market access story: For HEMAR teams
Telling your market access story: For HEMAR teams
What's Covered

Your billion-dollar investment in a new drug is worthless and will never benefit patients if nobody will pay for it. Safety and efficacy count for nothing without reimbursement.

That’s why your market access teams need a powerful story. In recent years market access professionals have moved to front and centre of the stage.

Where they used to sit in the background with cost-effectiveness models, complex statistical analyses and pages of acronyms, they’re now in the centre of the debate about drug prices and access.

As much as any other function, they need to take their argument from complexity to clarity. To paraphrase Einstein, they need to make the case ‘As simple as possible, but no simpler’.

At LionsDen we can help them do just that. We can help them move from their jargonised world of QUALYs, ICERs and sensitivity analyses to one where a clear story will engage and inspire payers and help patients.

Media and Communications Training: In the hot seat
Media and Communications Training: In the hot seat
What's covered

Many clients use the phrase ‘media training’ to mean any situation where they have to prepare for an interview. Investor or analyst briefings, Town Halls, investigator meetings, reimbursement hearings, industry panels. And, of course, media interviews.

That’s fine, but it’s why we prefer to call it ‘media and communications training’.

The aim is to tell a clear, impactful story, relevant to the audience, then deal with questions on it. It fits naturally with our approach of ‘Communicating in 3D – Develop, Deliver, Defend’.

All our senior people are former senior journalists in TV, newspapers and documentaries. So we can give you the inside track on how to prepare for media campaigns or one-off engagements, whether online, on the phone, face-to-face or through a social media Q&A.

We’ll combine our pharma speciality with our media backgrounds to help you craft a compelling story.
We’ll give you interview techniques that allow you to tell your story without sounding like an evasive politician.

We’ll help you spot traps, see red lines and create safe havens in case the interview goes off-piste.

Then we’ll put you through realistic roleplay interviews on your story and coach you in handling those really hard questions you hope don’t come up. So you’ll be 100% prepared for the lions’ den.

Presentation Rehearsal: Content, clarity and confidence
Presentation Rehearsal: Content, clarity and confidence

Whatever the setting, it’s your opportunity to update, explain, align, motivate or announce something that matters to your audience. At LionsDen we have prepared thousands of presenters for key presentations.

We’ll work with you on your material, and help you to apply our own techniques to it:

  • Engage and inspire, as well as inform
  • Tell stories, don’t dump data
  • Our ex-BBC TV presenter will coach you in online presenting skills, so you’re as impactful screen-to-screen as you are face-to-face.

It was a real pleasure to meet you, and I really enjoyed our discussions. You helped us a lot—I left feeling inspired, and better prepared to improve my communication impact.

General Manager, Roche, NL

The training sessions were simply amazing, and the positive feedback from the colleagues has been overwhelming. I loved the professionalism, dedication and inspiring atmosphere you brought to the rooms and with this you made the sessions even more memorable and impactful for all of us.

Medical Affairs lead, Ipsen, EU

Amy nailed it! She did so well! I think it was the best talk in the session by far. Your sessions made a big impact, and she looked so confident. It was just a few moments ago and I couldn't wait to tell you. Really happy with how it went.

Director, Scientific Communications, Ionis, USA

This very much met my objectives in terms of helping the team think about how to use these communications skills and techniques for all their interactions, and not just in a media environment. Thank you to you for your great delivery, and to all of you for your coaching.

Director, Regional Communication, MSD, EEMEA

Just wanted to drop a quick note to say that I’ve been applying some of the techniques Dan shared for building narratives in presentations—both in person and online—over the past few days. I feel that I’ve improved my skills and I’m noticing a better response from the audience. Thanks a lot for that!
